Best Facial Exercises for Younger Looking Skin

The Eye Opener

The eye opener tones the upper and lower lids while also reducing puffiness under the eyes. According to facial exercise expert Carole Maggio, this is how you should go about it:

“Place your index fingers together between your brows, then wrap your thumbs lightly around the outer-eye corners, as if you have a pair of sunglasses around your eyes. Squeeze your eyes tightly shut while pulling your two index fingers up slightly between your brows and pulling your thumbs out towards the top of your ears as you do so.

Keep your eyes tightly shut — and keep pulling up and out with your fingers, so the muscles around your eyes are working continuously against the pressure from your fingers for a count of 40 seconds.”


Furrow Smoother

Another of Maggio’s most popular exercises, the Furrow Smoother, works to lessen those vertical forehead lines and raises the upper brow. Her method is as such:

“Spread your fingers across the centre of your forehead. Now pull your fingertips down against your brows as you push your eyebrows up, creating tension in your forehead muscles. Keep your eyebrows pushed up and fingers pulling down for the count of 30 seconds. Do the Furrow Smoother twice daily.

For heavy lines, repeat three times a day. I also suggest sleeping at night with surgical tape over the forehead lines — this allows the muscles to relax while dreaming, and you will quickly see softened lines when you wake up.”


The V

Our next exercise is from Danielle Collins, who is a professional facial yoga instructor. This exercise is useful for getting rid of drooping eyelids, crow’s feet, eye bags and puffiness. This is how she advises her clients to go about it:

  1. Press both middle fingers together at the inner corner of the eyebrows. Then, with your index fingers; apply pressure to the outer corners of the eyebrows.
  2. Look to the ceiling, and raise the lower eyelids upwards to make a strong squint, and then relax.
  3. Repeat six more times and finish by squeezing the eyes shut tightly for 10 seconds.


The Giraffe

The neck is one part of the body that ages too quickly, so it is worth doing this exercise to get rid of some of those pesky neck wrinkles. Danielle explains the method as follows:

1. Looking straight ahead, place the fingertips at the bottom of the neck and lightly stroke the skin downwards with the head tilted back.
2. Bring the head back down to the chest and repeat twice more.
3. Finally, jut the lower lip out as far as possible to pull the corners of your mouth down and place your fingertips on your collarbone with your chin pointed upwards. Hold for four deep breaths.
