Anti Wrinkle Injections

Constant movement of facial muscles causes the skin to wrinkle in the facial area over time. This is what we call “dynamic wrinkles”. They are similar to the frown lines between the eyebrows (“crow’s feet”), and smoker’s or lipstick lines around the mouth. Anti wrinkle or anti aging injections can relax these muscles, thus allowing the overlying skin to smoothen out.

The use of the chemical, Neurotoxin, is used here at 3 Dental to produce the best and most long lasting results for our patients who are looking for that younger, more refreshed and rejuvenated appearance to their skin.

How Do Neurotoxins Work?

Neurotoxins work by interfering with the release of a neurotransmitter called ‘acetylcholine’ which is necessary for your muscle to contract. It takes 10-14 days after injection for this effect to become visible, at which stage you will be able to see your muscles relaxing and the skin smoothing out.

It is important to note that very deep wrinkles may not smooth out completely, and also skin that is wrinkled at rest (static wrinkles) will usually still be present. You can expect the cosmetic effects of neurotoxins to last up to 4 months, although some long-term patients find they can go up to 8 months between visits as their muscles tend to decrease in strength over time.

Where Can Neurotoxins Be Used?

Neurotoxins can be used in many areas of the face – the most common being the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes.

Neurotoxins may also be injected into the lower face but should be done by more experienced clinicians. Injecting it into the lower face can help resolve issues relating to the jaw caused by teeth grinding or “bruxism”. Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can be treated when injected into the armpit.
